When attempting to define Traditional American Cuisine you cannot put it in just one category. American food has evolved from many different cultures that all belong to our wonderful "Melting Pot". We all associate Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, French Fries, and of course Apple Pie with American food. When the weather allows, in addition to Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, we often barbecue food that includes: Chicken, Ribs, Corn-on-the-cob and the rolls that go with this food.
Ethnic cuisine has become uniquely American. Many cuisines have evolved from different cultures and even ethnic food is different throughout America. Barbecue is different in the South and the North. Chinese food is different in San Francisco and New York City, and is very different from Chinese food in China; and the list goes on.
Many people think of our traditional Thanksgiving Dinner as a good example of Traditional American food. We eat Turkey, Sweet Potatoes, Corn Bread, and Stuffing and don't forget the Cranberry Sauce! However we define Traditional American - just give me a Hot Dog topped with Mustard, Relish and pile on the Sauerkraut.
