"The Picture House presents the best in independent, international, documentary, and classic cinema in a beautifully restored 1921 theater. As southern Westchester’s nonprofit alternative to commercial multiplex theaters, we invite actors, directors, screenwriters, producers, critics, and others to engage with our audiences.

Lankmark
"The great old movie houses of the past have largely been carved up, torn down, or turned into something completely different. As a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of one of few surviving – and still operating – single-screen theaters, we work to ensure that, with a history of over 90 years, The Picture House will continue to entertain audiences for generations to come.

Community
"In a world where you can carry a movie screen in your pocket, the 1921 Picture House preserves the sense of community, wonder, and engagement that has existed since the formation of the first theaters. It is a cultural institution dedicated to the art of film. We believe passionately in the power of film to delight audiences, inspire creativity, build and bridge communities, and change lives. The Picture House offers a distinct alternative to commercial movie theaters by providing dynamic film and education programs to a diverse and multi-generational audience in Westchester County, the Bronx, and Connecticut.

Art
"Film is familiar to people of all ages, from all walks of life, from all over the world. As an art form and as a medium of communication, it connects all of us through memories, universal stories, and shared viewing experiences. We aim to create a vibrant community of people connected by their love of film. The Picture House is committed to screening films of the highest artistic value, emphasizing exceptional visuals, acting, writing, directing, content, and structure. The Picture House offers weeklong theatrical runs of independent, art house and classic films, in addition to curated series, retrospectives, sneak previews and other special events. Regular series include New Documentaries hot off the festival circuit; Repertory Classics screened in their original 35mm format; Family Flicks, a program of animated, independent and classic children and teen fare; and new independent films previewed in advance of their theatrical release. Additionally, we offer several programs of International Cinema, most prominently our annual Westchester Italian Film Festival. Many of these special events feature visits from filmmakers.

Education
"Cinema has the power to change lives for the better. Film education at The Picture House provides students with opportunities to experience that power. In addition to our signature youth programs, The Little Company and The Company, we offer customized residencies for schools, camps, and youth centers. The Little Company (toddlers – grade 2), allows our youngest artists to explore characters, story, scenic design, and early camera work. The Company (grades 3 – 12) takes an innovative, process- driven approach towards film acting, screenwriting, and directing. We also offer Adult Education. Classes for adults include acting, screenwriting and cinema studies. They are great opportunities for those who want to develop their skills, try something new, or gain a deeper appreciation for film as an art form."
