    Superintendent's Office Learn about your district's Superintendent. The Superintendent of Schools is the Board of Education's executive officer and District's educational leader.     PTA
    The Parent Teacher Association of a school is a non-partisan, volunteer organization that joins parents and teachers in a common enterprise to enhance the education and enrich the lives of the children. Generally, this goal is accomplished by sponsoring specific programs for the students, sharing parenting support, providing information to parents about the school and activities, and creating opportunities for administration, teachers, parents, and students to work together and communicate with one another.     Special Education Department
    The over-riding principle by which Special Education operates is to offer services in the least restrictive environment. This means, services are provided to the maximum extent appropriate, providing an education in the same manner as it is provided to every other child, alongside peers in a general educational environment, in their home district, in their home classrooms. Only if a multi-disciplinary team concludes that a child’s needs are not being addressed in the general classroom will that child be placed in a special education setting for some part or all of the day.

      Individual Educational Plan (IEP) An IEP addresses the unique needs of the individual learner. IEPs are drawn up for all children who have difficulties affecting their ability to learn. The IEP for every student is reviewed annually. Depending on circumstances, an IEP may be reviewed several times a year. Many Districts conduct a comprehensive re-evaluation every three years.

    Brewster Central School District
    Putnam County's Brewster Central School District is committed to educational excellence and the success of every student. This exurban community of 18,000 values its natural beauty, while priding itself on advancing a progressive educational agenda.

      John F. Kennedy Elementary School was erected in 1964 with 21 classrooms in the original building. In 1968 ten “open” classrooms were added as the “roundhouse.” There was also an expansion of the school cafeteria. During the summer of 2001, the “roundhouse” was renovated and each of the ten classrooms completely enclosed. Four portable classrooms were added in 1988 to accommodate the influx of children.

      John F. Kennedy had served as a kindergarten through grade five facility until 1990 when the fifth grade was moved to Henry H. Wells Middle School to accommodate its again growing population. With the building of C.V. Starr Intermediate School in 1998, our fourth grade vacated. JFK now houses kindergarten through second grades.

      C.V. Starr Intermediate School now houses grades three through five. Our teachers at C.V. Starr work as teams which allows them to share the responsibility for teaching the various subjects. The small size of our teaching teams, either 2 or 3 teachers per team, allows many of the benefits primary teachers experience in a traditional elementary model, while at the same time provides some of the specialization of a secondary model.

      Henry H. Wells Middle School is located in Brewster, NY, about fifty miles north of New York City. H. H. Wells houses three grade levels: sixth, seventh, and eighth. The school has multiple computer labs and is fully wireless with Internet access.

      Brewster High School is a comprehensive public secondary school for grades 9 – 12 with an enrollment of approximately 1200 students and over 110 teachers and support personnel. Academics are at the core of what we do and most students take English, Social Studies, Math, and Science through their senior year. Brewster students have been recognized regionally and nationally for excellence in all academic disciplines. Brewster High School has also grown into a regionally recognized leader in the Fine and Performing Arts, with one of the most advanced Performing Arts Centers in the region. In addition, nearly three quarters of the student body participate in interscholastic sports and/or one of our numerous clubs, honor societies, yearbook, student literary magazine, or student newspaper.


    Carmel Central School District
    Located just 56 miles from New York City, Carmel Central School District provides a high quality education for students within a pristine rural setting.     The Garrison Union Free School District, a nationally recognized high performing school district, is an integral part of a community that values its historical significance and local culture. This unique one-building school district originally established in 1795 now serves approximately 260 students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. Approximately 100 high school age students in the community are also served as they have the opportunity to choose to attend Haldane H.S. or James I. O’Neill H.S. Through the generosity of supportive community members, the school building has been updated and boundaries of the school yard have expanded to include an athletic field and a 181 acre School Forest that serves as an outdoor classroom.     Garrison prides itself on its nurturing environment, small class sizes, full day Kindergarten program and a variety of enrichment opportunities including Foreign Language instruction beginning in Grade 3 and an accelerated math program for Middle School students. Dedicated faculty, parents, students and community members work as partners to achieve enriching educational experiences and to challenge all students to become self-motivated, lifelong learners and contributing members of society.     Cold Spring has a rich history of educational philanthropy, beginning with James H. Haldane (1818-1887). Haldane bequeathed funds to build the original Haldane School, which was located across the street from its current location.     The current Haldane school first opened its doors in 1936 and now serves our middle school program. The elementary wing was erected in the 1970s, and the new high school building opened its doors in September, 2005 There have been one hundred eleven graduating classes since the founding of the school district and over 3000 students who have been awarded diplomas.
