From Pitkin: Pitkin Company has worked to develop a blend of the best Old World techniques and methods combined with the latest developments in hi-tech products to produce finished products that are classically beautiful, yet extremely durable. All work that we undertake should enhance not only the visual aspect but also the value of the piece and in doing so, our goal is to make each client’s experience with us, a relaxed and pleasurable experience, as we rely almost exclusively on referrals.

About Vance Pitkin
"Vance Pitkin got introduced to the wood restoration and repair business in 1971, when he started helping out in a local restoration shop owned by an elderly cabinetmaker and finisher in Rutland, Vermont. Pitkin maintained a restoration shop part time under the guidance of the old restorer for the next 4 years at which time he went into the restoration business full time and never looked back.

"During the mid 80's Pitkin had a rare opportunity to train under noted English Master Restorer Barry Shadbolt in his workshop at Royal City Antiques in Vancouver, British Columbia and then worked for a time in Portland, Oregon under Richard Gray, a well known West Coast expert in color matching. According to Pitkin, he “has always been lucky to work for some very talented people and learned something from each person”.

"Pitkin moved to the Chatham, NY area in 1991 and opened “Pitkin Co. Refinishers” at its current location at 14 River St. in March, 1993. The business expanded in 1999 to include the entire 6,000 sq. ft. building, where it continues with several full and part time employees and provides a variety of restoration and finishing services to antique dealers and collectors, as well as residential customers and cabinetmakers.

"According to Pitkin, he “still learns something new everyday” and that is in part what has made the last 35 years fly by! “We are always striving to perfect a new technique or find a new product that will provide our customers with the best possible results and that has helped to keep the business fresh and fun after all these years”. It has also kept Pitkin Company’s services in great demand, with their customer base made up of mostly repeat and word of mouth referral customers."
