Talliaferro Farms, a CSA offering certified organic produce, is located at 187 Plains Road, New Paltz NY 12561, Ulster County in the Hudson Valley.

From Taliaferro Farms: "This is our version of what is commonly called Community Supported Agriculture, or in short, CSA. It is the bringing together of community members, farmers, and agricultural land in a relationship of mutual support based on annual commitment to one another — a commitment that ensures the survival of local agriculture today and for future generations.

How it all works
"The people agree to purchase a share of the anticipated crop. The farmer agrees to supply the people with a fresh assortment of high quality, in our case, certified organic produce. The shareholders commitment implies a willingness to share with the farmer the bounty from the land, and, some of the risks of its production.

Our Objective
"To provide certified organic home grown farm fresh vegetables, fruits, and other agricultural foods to persons and families in the community. We offer a healthy choice of many of the standard produce varieties as well as many interesting and unique produce and products. We grow all of our vegetables and fruits using certified organic methods. The fruits we grow include: strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples and lots of melons.

"Crops are planted in succession to provide a continuous weekly supply of mixed vegetables chosen for flavor, nutritional value and to support bio-diversity through crop rotation. We grow more than 90 different varieties of vegetables, so the shareholders can expect a wide variety of items in their weekly shares. Becoming a shareholder in a CSA program has many benefits for all involved. Your interest and investment will help support small farms and their ideologies. You will see directly what your food dollars are being used for. You will be in direct contact with your food producer to ask questions about farming and the farm. I feel that people will find the CSA concept refreshing, instead of being many times removed from knowing when, where or how your food was produced. An actively producing farm with sustainability and economic growth on their agenda makes use of many local services and products. Supporting this helps keep a local economy stimulated and maintains easy access to healthy fresh food sources."

About Taliaferro Farms
"My wife and I purchased the land for our farm in the fall of 1995. This was the first step towards the reality of a dream come true and the beginning of a lot of hard work. I had spent the last 35 years working for some of the best people in the agricultural industry in our region. Taliaferro Farms is a culmination of experiences and knowledge gleaned throughout those years. Our whole family, sons Peter and Ian, daughter Delaney, my wife Robin and myself participate in all aspects of running the farm."
