Stress Testing
Stress Testing is a vital diagnostic tool in the care of the heart. The stress or exercise test is used to see how the heart performs when it is asked to work harder. While the patient is walking, he is connected to EKG equipment so that the heart rate and rhythm can be monitored.

Another type of stress test is a medication-induced stress test. If a patient is unable to walk, a medication (persantine) may be given to produce the effect on the heart as though the patient were exercising.

To make the stress test more specific, a Myocardial Perfusion Imaging stress test may be performed. This test involves an injection of a small amount of radioactive material (MYOVIEW or Thallium) which circulates in the bloodstream and shows if your heart muscle is receiving adequate blood supply under stress and/or rest conditions.

Special services at Northern Westchester Hospital include the Institute for Neurosciences, Center for Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery; Interventional Radiology suite; a Breast Health program with certified mammography, breast ultrasound services and stereotactic breast biopsy; the Institute of Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine; the Center for Sleep Medicine, and a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

With its multi-disciplinary team of medical professionals, NWH offers a complete spectrum of cancer care services, including, inpatient and outpatient treatment, follow-up care and rehabilitation. In addition to providing complete coordination of a patient's care, the Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center will house a state-of-the-art linear accelerator for radiation therapy; an infusion center; and enhanced imaging services to support early diagnosis and a suite dedicated to providing resources for breast and prostate cancer patients.

NWH's emerging Center for Health & Healing is a response to the community's interest in combining traditional medical care with complementary treatments. The outpatient center is staffed by a physician, nurse, licensed personnel and other practitioners to provide complementary therapies such as acupuncture, aromatherapy, massage therapy, Reiki and holistic health nursing.

Since its founding in 1891, MVH and its affiliated physicians have been providing a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic medical and surgical services. In addition to inpatient services, MVH is devoting its expertise and resources to specialty programs and services. more

The Family Health and Wellness Center, with 25 specialized ambulatory care clinics, provides both primary and specialty visits. The Mount Vernon Hospital also offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient behavioral health programs and has recently initiated the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program established to deliver comprehensive psychiatric services to individuals whose needs have not been met through traditional approaches.

The Mount Vernon's Chronic Wound Treatment and Hyperbaric Medicine Center is the largest service of its type in the northeast. The Center offers patients the most comprehensive and advanced wound management treatments available. Children in attendance enjoyed exploring more than a dozen fire engines and ambulances brought to Phelps by the emergency agencies that keep our communities safe. Phelps' Emergency Training Center was originally established two decades ago and has provided nearly 30,000 training sessions to emergency first responders throughout Westchester County and beyond. In the new 7,000 square-foot Frank and Lisina Hoch Center for Emergency Education, EMTs, firefighters and healthcare providers will have access to the same type of simulation technologies that pilots use to build critical emergency experience.

The new Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department offers outpatients physical and occupational therapy in a spacious, state-of-the-art facility. Exercise equipment is surrounded by a carpeted "track," and there are large private treatment rooms for therapy sessions. Patients recovering from stroke are able to practice activities of daily living in an "apartment" that includes a true-to-life kitchen and bathroom with handicapped features. The new facility features the Kathryn W. Davis Therapeutic Pool and Aquatherapy Center, which adds a new dimension to the rehab service at Phelps.

Other services that will find a new home in the building include the Wound Healing Institute, IV Infusion Center, Diabetes and Endocrine Center for Children & Young Adults, Phelps Counseling Center and Blood Donor Services.

The Hope Center
The cumulative incidence of reported AIDS cases in Yonkers is more than twice that for all other areas of Westchester County combined. According to the New York State Department of Health, is ranked highest in need for HIV-related services.

We have taken an important step to stem the HIV epidemic with the HOPE Center. The program is funded through grants from the Department of Health and Human Services, New York State Department of Health (AIDS Institute) and Westchester County Department of Health.

The HOPE Center wants to be a partner in your health care. Our staff is multicultural and multi-lingual. We work in this field because we care! We want to help you make a difference in your health. We have the personal, professional, cultural and life experience to help you be as healthy as you can.

Our services are provided to individuals who are at-risk for HIV infection or who are HIV infected. Services are either free or are charged to your medical insurance, Medicaid or Medicare. We also have access to coverage to assist with the outpatient medical care of those with HIV who have no coverage. This coverage is through the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) offered by the State of New York.

The ParkCare Prenatal Center
The ParkCare Prenatal Center offers comprehensive care for women during pregnancy. The Center is open Monday-Friday from 7:30am-4:00 pm. It is located at 2 Park Ave in Yonkers and easily accessible by all modes of public transportation. There is also ample parking.
