"The Bearsville Theater is the brainchild of Albert Grossman, the music industry visionary and magnate whose stable included Peter, Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, The Band and Todd Rundgren. The Catskill Park is a mountainous region of public and private lands in Southeastern New York's Ulster, Greene, Delaware and Sullivan Counties - the "forest preserve" counties. Ninety-eight peaks over 3,000 feet high form an impressive skyline. Its blend of public and private lands is typical of large parks in Europe, where people and unique lands have coexisted for centuries. The Catskill Forest Preserve is the state land within the Catskill Park. Since its creation in 1885, it has grown from 34,000 to 287,500 acres. An 1894 amendment to the New York State Constitution (now Article 14) directs:
"the lands of the State now owned or hereafter acquired, constituting the forest preserve as now fixed by law, shall be forever kept as wild forest lands. They shall not be leased, sold or exchanged, or be taken by any corporation, public or private, nor shall the timber thereon be sold, removed or destroyed."
The forest preserve has thousands of acres of forests with meadows, remnants of old farmsteads, lakes, rivers, springs, waterfalls, cliffs, fire towers, bears, rattlesnakes and other wildlife, rare plants and animals. Also, there are hundreds of miles of abandoned woods roads and trails to enjoy. Today, it serves as watershed, recreation area and ecological and scenic reserve.

Clearwater's Great Hudson River Revival
A Music & Environmental Festival
Clearwater Environmental Organization
-
"One of the Top 4 Music Festivals in the U.S."
Outside Magazine,
-
"Clearwater is everything a Folk Festival should be; good music, good people and good fun. You'll find your community is bigger when you leave than when you came.",
Ani DiFranco
-
"Playing Clearwater was one of the most fulfilling experiences I've had in music. I feel lucky to have been invited.",
Josh Ritter
About Clearwater
"Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Inc. is a 501(c)3 tax exempt nonprofit, member- supported corporation whose mission is to preserve and protect the Hudson River. In 1966, folk music legend and environmental activist Pete Seeger, in despair over the pollution of his beloved Hudson River, announced plans to “build a boat to save the river”. At the time, the Hudson was rank with raw sewage, toxic chemicals and oil pollution; fish had disappeared over many miles of its length. Seeger believed a majestic replica of the sloops that sailed the Hudson in the 18th and 19th centuries would bring people to the river, where they could experience its beauty and be moved to preserve it. Inspired by that vision, the 106-feet-long tall ship Clearwater was built and launched in 1969. The sloop was among the first vessels in the U.S. to conduct science-based environmental education aboard a sailing ship, virtually creating the template by which such programs are conducted around the world today.
"Since the launch of the Clearwater, more than 430,000 young people and hundreds of thousands of adults have experienced their first real look at an estuary’s ecosystem—fish, invertebrates, water chemistry and ecological principals—aboard the sloop. Clearwater’s environmental education programs now serve more than 15,000 students annually, and the organization also educates over 200 teachers each year through SUNY New Paltz, Pace University and other institutions. Clearwater’s members have helped advocate for the Clean Water Act, the Hudson River Park Act and removal of PCB’s from the Hudson.
"The Clearwater has become America’s Environmental Flagship, and was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 for its role in the environmental movement. Each summer, Clearwater re-connects Hudson Valley residents with their cultural heritage and traditions by bringing them down to the river for the Great Hudson River Revival, the country’s oldest music and environmental festival. The organization and its local sloop clubs also sponsor smaller local riverfront festivals throughout the year. Clearwater’s unique approach to public outreach has made the Clearwater a symbol of grassroots action through hands-on learning, music and celebration."

Empire State Railway Museum is located at Phoenicia NY 12464, Ulster County in the Hudson Valley. The Phoenicia Station, home to the ESRM is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
About the Empire State Railway Museum
"From the late 1800's through the 1940's the rugged steam locomotives of the Ulster & Delaware, Catskill Mountain Railroad, New York Central, New York Ontario & Western and Delaware & Northern climbed their steep and winding mountain grades bound for the grand hotels and humble boarding houses of the Catskills Mountains. They returned with lumber, bluestone, dairy and agricultural products of the region for transport to the New York City metropolitan area.
"ESRM is dedicated to bringing alive the history of these railroads, their people and the towns they served, to the residents and visitors of the Catskill Mountains and the greater Hudson Valley.
"Chartered by the New York State Department of Education in 1960, the ESRM established residence in the former Ulster & Delaware station in Phoenicia, New York in 1984. Built in 1899, the historic structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It houses the Museum's summer exhibition of photos, films and artifacts and is the center of our restoration of rolling stock. Three antique railway cars are currently being restored in Phoenicia - a 1900's Boston & Maine wooden baggage car, a 28 foot Pennsylvania RR 1890's wooden bobber caboose and a 54 foot Central Vermont 1929 wood/steel auto-carrying box car (one of the earliest of its kind).
"The ESRM founded and licenses the publication "Guide to Tourist Railroads and Museums", North America's definitive guide to tourist railroads and museums. Museum members are invited to learn railroading firsthand by attending seminars and participating in work sessions on locomotive and rolling stock restoration. Work continues on the restoration of our 1910 Alco 2-8-0 Consolidation-type steam locomotive located near Kingston, New York. We anticipate in the near future that the #23 will be running on the tracks along the Ashokan Reservoir offering spectacular vistas of the Catskill Mountains."

New York State Report Cards for Ulster County
"The New York State District Report Card is an important part of the Board of Regents’ effort to raise learning standards for all students. It provides information to the public on the district’s status and the status of schools within the district under the State and federal accountability systems, on student performance, and on other measures of school and district performance. Knowledge gained from the report card on a school district’s strengths and weaknesses can be used to improve instruction and services to students. State assessments are designed to help ensure that all students reach high learning standards. They show whether students are getting the knowledge and skills they need to succeed at the elementary, middle, and commencement levels and beyond. The State requires that students who are not making appropriate progress toward the standards receive academic intervention services." by NYSED.gov
The New York State Report Cards provide enrollment, demographic, attendance, suspension, dropout, teacher, assessment, accountability, graduation rate, post-graduate plan, career and technical education, and fiscal data for public and charter schools, districts, and the State. The report cards consist of three parts:
Accountability and Overview Report (AOR)
Comprehensive Information Report (CIR)
Fiscal Accountability Supplement
For each reporting year, a companion database containing data statewide and by county, Need/Resource Capacity Index, district, and school in many of the above areas is also provided for statistical analysis purposes.

Shawangunk Mountains Scenic Byway
Enjoy a wonderful scenic drive through the Shawangunk Mountains and rural countryside, just 90 miles north of New York City. We live in a region of mountains, forests, farms, rivers and streams, small hamlets and rolling, still unspoiled countryside, alive with nature and, yes, it is beautiful here.
Pronounced SHON-gum, the region is outlined by the Shawangunk Mountains Scenic Byway, officially designated a New York State Scenic Byway by the state legislature and the governor in the fall of 2006. An alternate route through Gardiner was added in the fall of 2009.
The now 88-mile byway encircles the northern Shawangunk Mountains and travels through the Rondout and Wallkill valleys, linking communities that have a common relationship to the northern Shawangunks and forming a distinct region of the state with its own special character.
There are 9 towns and 2 villages along the Shawangunk Mountain Scenic Byway. Each has a distinctive flavor and so much to offer. The Shawangunk Mountains Regional Partnership is comprised of the towns of Crawford, Gardiner, Marbletown, Montgomery, New Paltz, Rochester, Rosendale, Shawangunk, Wawarsing and the villages of Ellenville and New Paltz is the management organization for the Shawangunk Mountain Scenic Byway.

The Shawangunk Wine Trail is nestled between the famous Shawangunk Mountains and the majestic Hudson River in Ulster County, just 85 miles north of New York City. The Trail is composed of eleven family owned wineries and dozens of "Associate Members" dedicated to making a visit to the Hudson Valley a memorable experience.
While taking a tour of the wineries along the Trail, always in view of the mountains to the west, one is reminded of the cataclysmic forces of earlier geological periods when the earth heaved up forming the great folded ridge of conglomerate rock. And the more recent glacial period that scratched and gouged the scenic cliffs and formed the unique chain of emerald lakes perched atop the ridge. The eleven wineries on the Trail all follow the tradition of the fine winemaking established by the early French Huguenot settlers who brought their wine making expertise to this valley over 300 years ago. Each winery is different. Small to medium in size, all proud of their well crafted red and white wines that range from bone dry to dessert sweet. You will find sparkling wines, vinifera and French/American varietals and blends, and even some beautifully made fruit wines. This young, thriving industry has recently become well known for its prize winning wines across the nation. Throughout the year there are special events such as Lobster Fests, jazz concerts and strawberry festivals.
Scattered along the Trail are many special attractions, lodgings, B&B's and restaurants. While following the Trail the traveler could visit a thoroughbred horse farm, a honey farm with performing bears, exciting nature trails through the majestic mountain range an road side fruit and vegetable markets to delight all the senses. There is hang gliding, camping, parachuting, fishing, horseback riding, canoeing, country fairs, antiquing and a visit to the oldest street in America where the stone houses display the way life was lived in 1650.
In spring there are apple blossoms, strawberry picking and fresh flower sales. In summer, the College at New Paltz features a repertory theater and the Music in the Mountains Festival. There are several art galleries and numerous antique shops. And to top it off, literally, is a trip to Lake Minnewaska and Lake Mohonk Mountain House high atop the Shawangunks. The view from Skytop Point at Mohonk spans four different states.

Town Tinker Tube Rental is located at 10 Bridge Street, Phoenicia NY 12464, Ulster County in the Hudson Valley. "Since the days of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, the image of floating down a river on a hot summer day has always created a sense of adventure. Located in the heart of the Catskill Mountains is a five-mile stretch of river that has become one of the most popular tubing courses around. People come from all over to ride the rapids and drift with the current as the Esopus Creek winds through the beautiful mountains and greenery of the Catskills.
"Town Tinker has two courses, novice and expert. As the name implies, the novice course is for first-time tubers and those who prefer a gentler ride down the creek; the expert course is for more experienced tubers. Each course is about 2 1/2 miles long and each takes about 2 hours. The novice course begins near the Town Tinker headquarters on Bridge Street. This course has a variety of exciting rapids, fun flumes, and calmer stretches just made for drifting. At the end of this course, our Town Tinker Tube Taxis will be your transportation back to Bridge Street.
"The expert course, which is definitely more challenging and contains the best of the whitewater, begins 2 1/2 miles upstream from headquarters. Transportation to the entry point is by Town Tinker Tube Taxis. Along the expert course, you'll encounter larger, faster sets of rapids with names like "Railroad Rapids" and "The Chute"."
The word is
Fantastic tubing in Esopus Creek with a staff that is focused on safety. Be sure to bring water shoes that will not fall off, and a dry change of clothes.
